24-25 School Year - Program Update
As we continuously strive to enhance our educational offerings and better support our students, we would like to announce a modification to our trilingual program model. This change is designed to provide additional support in math and reading for students who have not been successful in passing the state exams, passed at the “approaches” level of achievement, and/or have other achievement data that indicates they would benefit from extra time in these critical areas.
Under the updated program model, students who need additional assistance in math and/or reading will have the opportunity to receive extra instructional time beyond their regular math and reading classes. This tailored approach will ensure all students get the support they need to succeed academically and successfully pass the required state exams at “approaches high” or higher.
Specifically, at the elementary grades 2-5, we now have two program models, driven by students’ reading and math achievement data. Students will be placed in either our 1) 50/50 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) model, through which they receive core content in English and Spanish alongside our Chinese FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools) program, or 2) students will receive all core content instruction in English alongside a Chinese and Spanish FLES class.
At the middle school grade levels 6-8, our students receive both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish as part of their daily academic schedule; however, since our Chinese and Spanish teachers will help us with math and reading interventions, students who may benefit from additional math and/or reading instruction will be placed in courses offering both an academic intervention and some language instruction. Students in high school will continue to be enrolled in a Chinese and Spanish credit-bearing course for every semester they are enrolled at ILTexas.
Our academic model will continue to be further enriched by our Fitness and Student Leadership programs, whereby each student receives “body and character” training by Performance Coaches 3-5 days a week. Through fitness and wellness training, students also develop important character and leadership traits such as servant leadership and putting “others before self,” the ILTexas motto.
Rest assured, all students will continue to participate in our comprehensive curriculum that includes language, leadership, and fitness. However, the amount of time dedicated to each of these subjects will vary depending on individual student needs and their current academic standing per their performance or projected performance on the state exams.
Our goal is to provide a balanced and supportive educational environment that promotes success for every student. We believe this modification will enable us to better address the diverse needs of our student body while maintaining the core elements of our mission.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we implement this enhancement. Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact your campus administration.
Dear ILTexas Parents/Guardians,
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing you with valuable information to support your child's academic journey, we wanted to share a video that explains how to calculate the Local Weighted Grade Point Average (GPA).
Understanding your student's GPA is crucial for gauging academic progress and identifying areas where they may need additional support. The Local Weighted GPA considers the difficulty level of courses by assigning different weights to grades based on honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and dual-credit.
To assist you in navigating this aspect of your child's education, we have included a link to a short video on calculating the Local Weighted GPA. This resource breaks down the process step by step and provides clarity on how specific grades contribute to the overall GPA.
We encourage you to take a moment to review the guide at your convenience. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mary Albritton (malbritton@iltexas.org), Executive Director of Counseling, who will be more than happy to assist you.
Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. Together, we can ensure their success and well-rounded development.
